In May 2019 violence against Muslims in Yangon and other areas in Myanmar resulted in the ‘White Rose campaign’, which saw religious, civil society organisations, and members of the public offer white roses to their Muslim neighbours, friends, colleagues, strangers, in a bid to demonstrate compassion and reassure them that they belong. This film animation was a creative collaboration between artists of differing ethnicities and shared Buddhist religious affiliation, and formed part of the ‘Reducing inequalities in public engagement’ project. “Our aim with this film was to show that we can live together based on mutual respect and kindness, despite our differences”, states Mi Mi Lwin, lead artist-researcher.
