Dan Seng Lawn and Cecilia Ja Seng

Dan Seng’s research focuses on issues related to Kachin particularly with respect to culture, conflict, social change, politics, and economics. Following his participation at a workshop aimed at exploring the value of arts in research, Dan Seng collaborated with the Kachin artist Cecilia Ja Seng to illustrate the experiences of internally displaced people and of youth disaffected by Myanmar’s faltering peace process. The artwork was exhibited at the Ahnu Thutaythana Festival in December 2019, as part of the ‘Reducing inequalities in public engagement in Myanmar’ project, where Dan Seng also joined a panel to discuss freedom of expression and issues around more inclusive democracy as they relate to the people of Kachin.
